Features

Fits into Windows, not around it

Sally uses the shell you already have: the same context menus, file associations, clipboard and drag and drop as Explorer, plus a direct line to Windows Terminal.

Windows Terminal

When Windows Terminal is installed, Sally reads its profiles (Stable, Preview and unpackaged) and lists them under Commands › Windows Terminal. Pick PowerShell, a WSL distribution, Command Prompt or any other profile and it opens in the active panel's folder.

Commands › Default Shell chooses what the Command Shell key (Num /) opens: %COMSPEC%, the Terminal's default profile, or a named profile. Launching a profile from the menu never changes that default, and the menu disappears if Windows Terminal is removed.

Explorer's menus and dialogs

  • Shift+F10 or a right click opens the Explorer context menu for the selection, with every shell extension you have installed; Alt+Shift+F10 opens it for the current folder.
  • Alt+Enter shows the Properties dialog, and Shift+F3 opens the current folder in Explorer.
  • Enter opens a document with its associated program, and Sally's own associations can override that for viewing and editing.

Clipboard and drag and drop

Files copied or cut in Explorer paste into Sally and the other way round. Drag files out of an archive or an FTP server straight into Explorer or another program; a small shell extension delivers them, on 64-bit Windows too. Shift+Insert with a path on the clipboard changes the panel to that path.

Start Sally your way

Command-line parameters open given paths in the left, right or active panel (-L, -R, -A), import a configuration file (-C), set the window title prefix and icon color (-T, -I) and choose the active panel (-P), so a shortcut or a script can open exactly the view it needs.
